Forgotten

Acrylic on canvas -- 24" x 48"-- 2017A tribute to the children who were sent to Indian Residential Schools. The nuns and priests are dark figures that overshadow the children. Each flower is unique, representing the individuality of every child. The roots and branches are not touching the earth, but stretch towards a fading dream catcher indicating the loss of their culture and heritage. The Two Row Wampum Belt was the original treaty of peace between Canada's indigenous people and the early settlers and serves to remind us of the broken promise.
